CAMRA North East Region Pub of the Year Competition

Pub surveyors required

Cleveland CAMRA Branch area north of the River Tees is part of the North East CAMRA Region together with 4 other CAMRA branches namely Darlington, Durham, Sunderland & South Tyneside and Tyneside & Northumberland. An annual competition takes place between the CAMRA North East regional branches whereby each put forward their branch Pubs’ of the Year as contenders.

Cleveland branch nomination for CAMRA North East Pub of the Year is the GOLDEN SMOG situated in central Stockton-on-Tees

The nominations that will need to be surveyed by Cleveland CAMRA members are listed below.

Over the summer months, CAMRA volunteers from each of the North East CAMRA branches survey and score the nominated pubs NOT in their Branch area.

If a branch fails to survey ALL the nominated pubs (excluding their own) it will result in their own branch’s nomination being disqualified from the competition.

What surveying would entail

This can be carried out independently, not necessarily on the same day and involves scoring the nominations according to the following categories.

  • • Quality of Beer/Cider/Perry
  • • Style, Décor, Furnishing and Cleanliness
  • • Service Welcome and Offering
  • • Community Focus and Atmosphere
  • • Alignment with CAMRA principles
  • • Overall impression

It is important that an individual branch member surveys as many of the nominated pubs listed below so that a fair comparison can be made between the competitors.
