Preparations are well underway for the Scottish Real Ale Festival 2018 which will be held at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh from Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th July. This is your chance to sample from amongst over 170 different beers from the widest selection of Scottish and Northern Ireland breweries you are going to find together in one space this year. Our beer and brewing scene is thriving at the moment and there is so much to try. It’s a golden opportunity to try out beer styles you might not be used to, or to track down that brewery you’ve heard good things about but never found. The quality will also be spot on if past years are to go by – you can be confident you are trying the beer as it’s meant to taste. There will also be a cider bar and wines will be available. The Champion Beer of Scotland 2018 will be announced at the festival but in addition festival visitors will have the opportunity to nominate their own Beer of the Festival and enter a prize draw for a festival goody bag. CAMRA members have reduced price entry to the festival at £4 (as opposed to £6 for non-members) This includes a festival glass and a programme, with comprehensive tasting notes. We need as many CAMRA members as possible attending to ensure a successful festival, so we hope you can join us – it would be great to see you!

This year’s Whitby Beer Festival held in aid of Whitby & District Lion’s Club is being held from Thursday 26th July until Sunday 29th July 2018.

The festival has over 30 real beers and ciders to sample, which means none of this mass-produced beer here, only authentic, hand crafted, regionally produced Real Ales.

All money raised from the festival helps to support the many local Whitby charities which Whitby Lion’s donate to each year, we also give vital funds to the many personal good causes within the local area which in particularly find it hard to access and raise the funding required. As a club, we also run our Disability Scooter Programme which hires out mobility scooters (free of charge) to anyone who has difficulty getting out and about. We also have an ongoing effort to raise awareness of diabetes through a number of different events throughout the year.
